Consortium ambitions

By the end of this project, the RELIANCE Partners will have set several ambitions for a European Power Transmission Network, which will structure the RELIANCE RTD coordination action. These ambitions are:

  • optimize reliability to support electricity as a vital, cost-efficient energy system
  • increase integration of electricity market
  • support for massive penetration of RES and DER
  • improve transmission system robustness (survivability and resilience)
  • the sustainable grid development

These ambitions are periodically reviewed and refined during the course of the project.
The Consortium Parties aim to meet the following five objectives over the Commission Contract duration:

  • to define the knowledge that lacks to support a collective vision of the performance upgrades required by the European Transmission Network in 2030;
  • to delineate the candidate roadmaps which will support the underlying RTD work load required to meet the above needs;
  • to define, within these RTD roadmaps, the share of RTD work which will need joint and coordinated work at a European level and at the various national levels;
  • to propose an autonomous and permanent RTD structure together with its funding scenario to support the coordinated part of the work at a European level, in coherence with what will remain funded at national level;
  • to reach a collective conviction about RTD performance and coordination of a majority of key players (TSO, research organizations, regulators and clients of the TSO’s) to support the enhancement of an optimized European power transmission network.
